To revitalize the Operacaffe brand through a complete website redesign, updated menus, and digital presence optimization to better compete with other Italian restaurants in downtown San Diego. The goal was to modernize the customer experience, highlight the restaurant’s authenticity, and drive more foot traffic and online bookings, all while preserving its traditional Italian charm.
Operacaffe is a family-owned Italian restaurant located in the heart of downtown San Diego. Known for its traditional ambiance, handmade pasta, and open-kitchen authenticity, the restaurant offers an immersive dining experience that feels both rustic and genuine. Positioned near the busy Horton Plaza district, Operacaffe competes with numerous Italian eateries and needed a refreshed brand to stand out. Their commitment to culinary quality and old world charm became the core of the updated design direction.
When Operacaffe approached me, they were concerned about losing foot traffic and digital visibility to nearby competitors. I began with in-person visits to the restaurant and their competition to identify what made them truly unique, their authentic food and ambiance. I conducted a full audit of their digital presence, including Google listings, Yelp, website UX, and menu presentation.
I redesigned their website using Elementor on WordPress for scalability and speed, integrating OpenTable for seamless reservations. I provided a full photography session to capture high-resolution, authentic food imagery, which was used across the website, menu, and exterior signage. I also designed new menus with upgraded bindings and scratch resistant surfaces and reorganized dishes by category, using my photography to visually guide diners.
Outside of visual work, I improved their SEO (on-page and off-page), updated their Google presence, and helped them consistently grow organic traffic. Thanks to the redesign and automation efforts, Operacaffe experienced YoY organic growth between 5–15%, and the business continues to thrive years after implementation, surviving even through the COVID-19 impact due to strong branding, user-friendly design, and better operational tools.
